On October 22nd, Simone officially started working on his Master’s thesis from the Polytechnic University of Bari in Italy, where he studies Architectural Engineering. He is carrying out the first two months of his work at Summum Engineering before returning to Bari. Under joint supervision with Prof. Guiseppe Carlo Marano and Dr. Maurizio Barberio, Simone will investigate the optimal shape of a prestressed, segmented, additively manufactured arch, including the topology optimization of its voussoirs (building blocks) .

The thesis project is following up on questions raised by the design proposal for the exhibition “Additive Stereotomy 2.0”, originally developed by Barberio Colella ARC, the New Fundamentals Research Group at Polytechnic University of Bari, and Summum Engineering.
